The themes are versatile allowing you to use them all year long. I plan to use these during my math intervention time and they'd also work well for stations.

Summertime
This is the first time in 23 years that we finished school before Memorial Day weekend. I usually count on that long weekend to finish up photo gifts, grades and grade cards. As much as I felt I needed the extra time , I loved not returning this week. When do you start summer break?
If you are still in school with those restless students, check out some of my graphing scavenger hunts. Your students will enjoy getting up and moving around!
Have a great summer! This will be Lily's first summer and we we are excited to spend extra time with her. She enjoys her daily bubble time and playing Frisbee!

Zoo Field Trip
Last Thursday we took our field trip to the zoo. We lucked out with no rain. Our weather has been cold and wet all month, so all we could do was hope for the best! We had nice weather! We always have a lot of chaperones so we have really small groups and it makes the visit more enjoyable for all!
As the school year winds down, our students are writing animal reports and participating in an animal wax museum to wrap up our animal unit. Last year was the first year we've tried the museum and it was a huge hit! I have a third grader this year, so we'll be working on a habitat for a Lynx.
After our field trip I like to use my zoo sentence scrambles and writing unit with my students. It's a nice change of pace from all the work we've done during the year. My students really enjoy working on the sentence scrambles and it was just challenging enough to make them think without getting frustrated and to put chatting aside. It's a great language review when they need clues to help them.
There's a choice of 5 animals. Some sentence scrambles are more challenging than others, so I was able to differentiate the activity for my intervention groups. There are 3 scrambles for each animal and my students were able to complete all three in about 30 minutes.

Tomorrow my students will work on choosing a sentence to paraphrase and illustrate. My students still need a lot of practice of writing information in their own words. It's a tough skill for many of them. Then they'll choose an adaptation and write about it. To finish up, they'll complete an editing activity.

Pictographs and More Pictographs
This week we are continuing graphing and we made more pictographs today. After using this activity as a cut and paste lesson, the students had to create their own by drawing.
Someone was spoiled at Easter. She enjoyed having us at home for a week and going for her first visit to a dog park. She loved the park and met a lot of BIG dogs. They were all very friendly and she was curious and polite.

Pictographs
We had fun making pictographs today! There is some flexibility built into this product. The pieces can be laminated and re-used, or copies can be made and students can cut and paste onto the graph. I chose to use it as a cut and paste activity this year since all of my students really needed a review and this is a fun way to practice.

Graphing
We've been busy with making graphs! This is one of my favorite products. Instead of using the laminated colored pieces with individual students, I just copied the information and we worked on the graphs together using the projector. Tomorrow we'll make some pictographs as cut and paste activities.
After spring break we will work on line plots and some more review using my graphing book!
Just before testing, we'll review with scavenger hunts to get the students up and moving around. This great bundle includes the graph making and scavenger hunts.
